Christmas is on its way! I am so excited for Christmas this year. I am counting down the days to school vacation, so we can sleep in, family get-togethers, hot chocolate, egg nog, fudge…there really are so many wonderful things about Christmas. The BEST part for me, is the music. These Christmas printables feature some of my favorite scriptures found in carols.
Yes, I already started listening to Christmas music.
Yes, I’m one of “those people”.
Christmas carols are so full of Christ’s spirit that they make me excited, thankful, peaceful, and full of joy all at the same time. When I am stressed out, a few minutes on my Pandora Christmas station is really all I need.
“Peace on Earth Good Will to Men” is one of the most popular quoted scriptures at Christmas time. Christ birth truly brings us peace. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, features this scripture and illustrates Christ’s peace beautifully. The lyrics come from a poem written in 1863 by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, after a personal tragedy. After he lost his second wife, and his firstborn son enlisted in the Civil War and returned home badly injured. Henry felt like anything but celebrating Christmas. He writes…
And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
after quoting the famous scripture of Peace on Earth, comes the best part.. the last verse…
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
The continued bells ringing reminded Longfellow, that Christ’s birth was the reason to ring the bell. The atonement of Christ is the reason why the world is not dark and cold. We can have peace and joy even through trials and hardship if we turn to Christ.
I dare you not to break out into song after reading this.
…unto us… a son is given…unto us… if only you guys could here my opera voice. There is a reason I haven’t gone on America’s Got Talent. But I sing loud and proud anyway. I love this message of peace and love.
